Absinthe was already drunk in Spain in the nineteenth century, but the ban in France in 1915 gave an enormous boost to the Spanish absinthe industry. Any French drinkers wanting absinthe merely needed a friend in Spain , or a holiday! Pernod, one of the first companies to commercialize absinthe globally, moved some production facilities to Spain after the ban, giving further impetus to the local market.
