Pontarlier is a city in the Doubs region of the Franche-Comté in eastern France, known as a pioneering city in the field of aviation, and more importantly as the home to the first French absinthe distillery in 1805 - remaining synonymous with high quality absinthe until it was outlawed in 1915. Pontarlier is also home to the world renowned Absinthiades awards, where the leading figures in the world of absinthe gather to critique the best products on the market. Today many absinthes are once again produced in Pontarlier, such as the ultra-premium La Fée XS Francáise.
